Meet Stuart

Stuart James-Foy, psychic medium, multi-award-winning-author, Spiritual mentor

I sometimes look back at my life and feel as though I have lived two completely different ones.

One was shaped by external circumstances beyond my control. The other began when I realised what destiny was and I could start choosing what happened next.

I am a psychic medium, spiritual mentor and coach, multi-award-winning author and filmmaker.

But those titles only tell you what I do. They do not tell you why I do it.

My work grew from lived experience.I experienced significant trauma and instability during childhood and early life.

At the same time, for as long as I can remember, I was seeing, hearing and feeling spirit.

That connection became one of the great constants of my life.

It gave me meaning when things made little sense. Resilience when I needed to keep going. Direction when I could not yet see where life was taking me.

Looking back, I do not know who I would have become without that connection.

Spirit did not erase what happened to me, but it helped guide me through it and towards the life I now live. It helped me understand something that now sits at the heart of everything I do and teach.

What happens to us may shape part of our story. It does not have to determine the next chapter of our lives.

I do not share my past because I want pity or sympathy.

I share it because I want people to understand why I know transformation is possible.

I know because I have lived it.

The little boy who rarely felt safe eventually built a life in which he does.

That journey became the foundation of Activate Your Destiny. Unleash your Dream Life.

My Mission

My mission is to help soul-led people find greater clarity, alignment and direction in their lives and businesses.

Not by telling them that some fixed future has already been decided for them.

Quite the opposite.

I have come to know that spiritual guidance should support free will, not replace it. Spirit can illuminate the road. It can alert us when something feels wrong. It can show us possibilities we may not yet be able to see. I often describe it as a spiritual Sat Nav or GPS.

But we still have to drive the car.

That is why Activate Your Destiny, Unleash your Dream Life means so much more to me than a name.

I experienced circumstances I could not control. But eventually I discovered that although I could not rewrite what had happened, I could begin choosing what happened next and unleashing the dream life I now live.

That is the work. Not denying the past. Not waiting for somebody else to rescue us. But becoming an active participant in our future.

I do believe there can be purpose in what we experience. But purpose does not make harm acceptable. Meaning is not the same as justification. I believe we choose certain relationships and conditions before we arrive here, including our family.

But that does not mean I believe every harmful act committed by another person was spiritually pre-scripted, justified or necessary.

What I have come to understand is that even the circumstances beyond our control can contain lessons that reveal themselves with time, age and experience.

That does not sugar-coat what happened. It does not make what was wrong suddenly right.

It asks a different question:

What can I take from this?

What did it teach me?

What can I do differently because of what I know now?

For me, that is where transformation begins.

When we understand and integrate those lessons, life can begin to happen through us rather than simply to us.

We take the lesson. We reclaim the choice. We decide what comes next.

And that is how we begin unleashing the life that is already within us.

Activate Your Destiny. Unleash Your Dream Life.

The Early Light

Stuart James-Foy aged 3

I was born in 1978 into a working-class family in the UK. I was the youngest.

Like most children, I began life with that glorious feeling that anything was possible.

Endless summer days, playing with friends, long spooky evenings around Halloween. That first magical glimpse of Christmas decorations appearing in shop windows.

Awe. Wonder. Possibility.

A child should, at the very least, feel safe and loved.

I often did not. Home could be turbulent and unpredictable.

There were a few pockets of happiness I would find during short visits to family in Portsmouth. Those visits felt like a haven from everything happening around me, and I remain grateful to those family members.

Yet alongside that physical world was another one.

From my earliest memories, I could see spirit. I could hear spirit.

I could sense people, presences and atmospheres that others around me seemed completely unaware of.

What I would later understand as mediumship and psychic ability was simply normal to me.

And thank God it was.

Because while the physical world around me could feel uncertain, spirit became a constant.

I also grew up in what I experienced as a haunted house. Strangely, rather than terrifying me, I found the paranormal activity fascinated me.

I wanted to understand it.

Why could I sense things other people could not?

Why did some rooms feel completely different from others?

Who were these people I could see?

What was happening?

I did not have words such as mediumship, paranormal phenomena or spiritual sensitivity. I simply knew what I experienced.

Years later, when people began asking me for help with unexplained activity in their own homes and businesses, I was not approaching their experiences purely from books or training. I knew what it was like to live with the unexplained.

That first-hand understanding became an important part of my later work in paranormal investigation, spiritual protection and clearing.

It also taught me something I still believe today.

Fear is rarely the best place from which to understand anything.

Calm. Curiosity. Discernment. Understanding.

They take us much further.

I also grew up around very different expressions of religion.

There were Catholic services, Easter, Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve and other members of the family who attended a Christian Church where people would fall to the floor and speak in tongues.

As a little boy, I remember thinking:

What's going on?

Are they happy?

Are they in pain?

Am I supposed to start rolling around too?...I had questions. Lots of them.

But the thing I struggled with most was not what happened inside the church.

It was what happened afterwards.

I would hear people talking about God, love and goodness, yet sometimes witness behaviour at home that seemed completely at odds with those words.

Even as a child, I noticed the contradiction. I did not have the language for it then. I do now.

What we call ourselves matters far less than how we actually live.

Childhood also brought experiences no child should have to navigate.

I was sexually abused by an older woman in my family when I was around six years old.

Something that should have felt safe and affectionate felt completely wrong. I tried to push her away. Eventually I found the courage to tell adults what was happening.

It was minimised. I was encouraged not to speak about it.

There was physical abuse too.

I remember being dragged from the bath by a man in my family and badly beaten while I was still wet. I was threatened by him not to tell anybody, or it would happen again.

Another member of the family later that evening realised I was in so much pain that I could barely sit down. She saw the bruising and his handprints all over my legs and buttocks and intervened.

There was a moment when I was around seven that has never left me.

I was playing and making noise, as children do, when a female member of the family became angry with me.

She hit me with wooden clog-style shoes. I ran upstairs and tried to hide beneath the covers of my bed.

She followed me.

She climbed on top of me, pinched my nose closed and clasped her hand tightly over my mouth so that I could not breathe.

All the while she was saying:

“I’m gonna kill you.”

I believed her.

I remember the terrifying realisation that I could not breathe and that, if I did nothing, I might die.

Somehow I managed to bend her fingers backwards just enough to take a gasp of air. I got my feet underneath her and, with every bit of strength my little body had, pushed her backwards.

Then I ran. Down the stairs. Out of the house. And straight to my den at the bottom of the road.

I sat there in shock, my nose and mouth hurting, thinking:

I could have died.

Something changed in me that day. I knew that whenever I possibly could, I would stand up for myself.

The discord continued. Violence, Family conflict. Fear. A deeply volatile Christmas Day when my parents separated. Later, during another incident, I was grabbed and threatened with a knife.

For periods of my childhood I became frightened to sleep.

Eventually I was taken in by another family member for several years because I no longer felt safe living at home, and for that I am grateful.

I am not sharing these things to create villains. Nor do I need to name the people involved.

This is not revenge.

It is context.

For much of my childhood, I did not feel safe.

And yet spirit was there. Always.

In one of life’s stranger twists, another source of resilience arrived through an Australian television programme called Prisoner: Cell Block H.

I became enthralled with it. Those strong characters, their survival and their refusal to give up gave something to the frightened boy watching them. Strength can arrive from some wonderfully unexpected places.

Not every wound was physical. Just before I started secondary school, I was taken to a market to buy my new uniform. At eleven, I had not yet grown tall and I was a chubby little boy.

Several pairs of trousers did not fit. Frustration turned into a sentence I have never forgotten:

“You shouldn’t be so bloody fat.”

It was said in front of the woman serving us and other customers.

I was mortified. I was already conscious of my body. I did not need somebody close to me confirming every insecurity I had begun carrying about it.

What I remember just as clearly is the woman in the shop speaking up for me and saying there was no need to be so cruel.

Years later, there is an irony that makes me smile.

That chubby little boy grew up to become a dancer and a model.

Another label that could have become a limitation did not get to decide who I became.

Stuart James-Foy at 14 years of age

The Turning Point

As a teenager I continued having extraordinary spiritual experiences while also training as a dancer.

Dance gave me freedom. Discipline. Expression. And somewhere to put all that energy.

One evening, while walking to the dance studio, I was approached by a large aggressive man. He grabbed me and attempted to pull me towards an underpass. I could not get away.

Then I saw him reach towards his back pocket. I knew he was going to pull out a knife.

Silently, I asked spirit for help. What happened next has stayed with me ever since.I felt an enormous presence surrounding me.

The only way I can describe it is as though a hundred angels and spirits had suddenly arrived.

There was an extraordinary sense of protection and love around me.

I saw what appeared to me as an ethereal mist.

And something remarkable happened.

My fear disappeared. I remember thinking: I’m going to be fine.

The man looked confused, I know he could feel the power. He removed his hand from his pocket. He let go of me. And quickly walked away.

I cannot tell you exactly what he experienced, only what I experienced. But it was clear from his reaction that he felt something.

And I knew that something far greater than me had happened.

That moment deepened what I had known intuitively since childhood.

We are not navigating this life alone.

But spirituality did not make every difficulty magically disappear. That is not how I understand it.

Spirit did not live my life for me. It helped me find the strength to live it myself.

By sixteen I was beginning to understand boundaries.

While training as a hairdresser, I worked in a salon where an older man connected with the business repeatedly sexualised and harassed me.

I made it very clear that I was not interested and that he was out of line.

He continued, eventually crossing a physical boundary and for a moment I froze.

It took me straight back to the abuse I had experienced as a child.

And then I did something incredibly important. I left...Quite literally through the fire exit.

I went to my college in tears and told them what had happened. They helped me find somewhere safe to complete my training.

At the time I did not have the language I have today. Now I understand exactly what happened.

Leaving was not failure. Leaving was an act of self-respect.

That lesson would return many times.

As I grew older, I became increasingly unwilling to remain inside relationships and environments that were harming me.

Eventually I made my boundaries unmistakably clear.

If the behaviour continued, I would walk away.

It continued.

So I kept my promise.

I walked away from people I would never see again.

My soul contract with these people was complete.

It was one of the hardest decisions of my life. It was also one of the most important.

I had spent enough of my life surviving. I wanted to start living.

Walking away was not the end of healing. I had to learn to trust again. I had to learn forgiveness in my own way.

For me, forgiveness did not mean pretending that what happened was acceptable. It did not mean forgetting. And it did not mean reopening doors I had chosen to close.

Forgiveness meant refusing to allow the past to keep occupying my present.

Forgiveness helped me release the past.

Boundaries stopped me returning to it.

And I came to understand something else that would become fundamental to my philosophy.

Labels can be useful.

Victim. Survivor. Traumatised. Gay. Different.

They can help us understand an experience. But the moment we confuse description with identity, we begin limiting ourselves.

A label may explain part of your story. It should never become the boundaries of your future. What happened to me was something I experienced. It was not who I was.

That became Labels Limit Liberation.

The Dance of Destiny

Stuart & Dean James-Foy, psychic mediums, multi-award-winning authors & filmmakers

My coming-out story is spectacularly boring because I never really had one. Being gay felt entirely natural to me. I never felt the need to announce it nor hide it. Not everybody around me embraced it immediately, and some never did.

Eventually I packed my world into two suitcases and moved to the South-East of England. The feeling of freedom was extraordinary.

For the first time, I felt as though the horizon in front of me was genuinely mine. I worked as a dancer and vocalist and was signed by a modelling agency.

My performing life brought me into contact with established entertainers including The Beverley Sisters, Eve Graham and Lyn Paul of The New Seekers, Freddie & The Dreamers, Marty Wilde, Mike Reid and Joe Pasquale. I just loved performing.

But moving away gave me something even more important. Space. Space to become myself.

And then I met Dean. My husband. My best friend. My life and adventure partner.

It still makes me smile because if anyone ever asks whether I believe in love at first sight, I can give them a very definite answer...Yes.

The moment we shook hands, something moved through me.

love, recognition, respect, connection. Whatever word I use never quite captures it.

At first we became best friends. We went everywhere together. Talked endlessly. Laughed. Explored. And somewhere inside me I wondered whether he felt what I felt. Spirit seemed to be giving me a fairly emphatic yes.

We became a couple in April 1996. We went to London and exchanged rings on the steps of Eros in Piccadilly Circus. It was just us. No elaborate ceremony. Just love and certainty.

Thirty years later, Dean remains my husband, best friend and favourite person, sharing our adventures together.

For somebody who had spent so much of childhood learning what love was not, Dean helped me understand what love truly was.

Safe, consistent, mutual, funny, kind, ordinary and extraordinary all at once.

And through Dean, friends and the people I consciously chose to have around me, I learned something else. Family is not defined only by blood.

Chosen family can be every bit as meaningful as the family we are born into. Sometimes even more so. Because these are relationships built through love, respect and choice.

The life I had experienced as a child and the life I was now building through my own choices could not have looked more different.

The Awakening of Purpose

Eventually, Dean and I returned to the Midlands, where we bought our first home together. It was there that another chapter of my purpose began to unfold.

My relationship with spirit continued to deepen. What had comforted, protected and guided me throughout my life increasingly became something I could use in service to others.

I began giving impromptu readings. Founded the Midlands Ghost Hunters Society in 1997, later expanding to The Ghost Society of England. Then I worked professionally as a psychic medium and spiritual coach.

That work has now continued for more than 30 years, allowing me to support people across the UK and internationally through some of the most important crossroads of their lives.

It brought opportunities to appear on BBC television news and radio, to be interviewed by newspapers, and to contribute as an invited psychic expert to Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me.

People experiencing unexplained activity in their homes and businesses began coming to me for help. Having grown up in a haunted house, I understood something important.

When somebody is frightened by what they believe is happening around them, sensationalism is the last thing they need.

They need calm. Understanding. Discernment.

And someone who is not frightened by the subject.

I wanted to expand my natural mediumistic and psychic ability further. I wanted to go deeper. I wanted training. I wanted experience.

I wanted to understand the gift rather than simply possess it.

So I attended the world-renowned Arthur Findlay College in Stansted, developing under respected medium and tutor Glyn Edwards and other teachers of mediumship.

My study continued across mediumship, psychic development, Reiki, hypnotherapy, spiritual life coaching, parapsychology, business coaching and different spiritual paths, some initiatory, some not.

I travelled. I learned. I questioned. I practised.

And during the Halloween season in Salem, Massachusetts, I attended workshops with Laurie Cabot,

The Official Witch of Salem.

As a lifelong lover of Halloween, you can imagine that Salem was my perfect magickal place.

Meeting Laurie was another extraordinary moment in a life that increasingly seemed to be expanding beyond anything the boy I had once been could have imagined.

Yet none of these experiences made me interested in collecting impressive spiritual labels. If anything, they taught me the opposite.

Qualifications matter. Training matters. Practice matters.

But ultimately:

Embodiment matters most.

You have to live what you teach.

The Writer's Journey -

A Collaboration written in the stars

Parting the Veil: How to Communicate with the Spirit World by Stuart James-Foy
Stuart James-Foy, psychic medium with paranormal expert & author, Rosemary Ellen Guiley

Another remarkable chapter began in Salem.

One of my childhood heroes was paranormal researcher, broadcaster and prolific author Rosemary Ellen Guiley. Dean and I attended a workshop Rosemary was hosting involving the use of scrying mirrors to connect with spirit.

Afterwards, we delivered spirit messages to her. Rosemary was delighted. She invited us to brunch the following day.

And what began as meeting somebody whose work I had admired became friendship. We began planning spiritual adventures on both sides of the Atlantic.

Dean and I became two of the mediums Rosemary chose to consult regarding the psychic world and paranormal investigations in the United States, and she continued to support our mediumistic work.

Then, in 2016, something wonderful happened. After Rosemary watched us demonstrate mediumship at an event she arranged, we were commissioned to write a book for Rosemary’s publishing company, Visionary Living.

That book became Parting the Veil: How to Communicate with the Spirit World.

We launched it in the United States in 2017, travelling through New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

In 2018, Parting the Veil won the Soul & Spirit Spiritual Book Gold Award for Best Psychic Book, judged by respected medium Tony Stockwell.

In 2025, the book received further recognition with a Readers’ Choice Award.

I also contributed as an expert to Soul & Spirit magazine, sharing the knowledge I had spent a lifetime developing.

There is something deeply moving about that for me.

The little boy who had once wondered why nobody around him understood what he could see and feel was now being recognised for helping other people understand their own spiritual experiences.

I never take that for granted.

A New Awakening

When the world paused in 2020, so did I.

For me, it became a period of reflection.

What mattered?

What did I still want to create?

What had I learned? And how could I use everything I had experienced to serve people more fully in a world that itself seemed to be changing at extraordinary speed?

One answer arrived through creativity.

Dean and I both came from performing and creative backgrounds and shared a lifelong love of film. So we formed our own production company, Comfy Couch Pictures.

Our first film, LUCI, followed.

It went on to become Winner of The Brighton Rocks International Film Festival, along with a Finalist Award, an Honourable mention and two other Official Selections at international festivals.

Our second film, Meal for One, achieved five official selections internationally, including New York and Los Angeles, the home of Hollywood. And then came another wonderfully surreal chapter.

For our film Frankensteen, we were delighted to cast Hollywood director and filmmaker Sam Irvin, (pictured above) whose career includes work as co-executive producer on Bill Condon’s Oscar-winning Gods and Monsters, starring Sir Ian McKellen.

In June 2026, another important chapter came to a close when I retired from dancing.

Alongside performing, I had choreographed three original musical theatre productions in London’s West End for performing arts students with six glorious performances at His Majesty’s Theatre and The Shaftesbury Theatre.

Many of those students went on to build careers across stage and screen, including one who later played a pivotal role in HBO’s acclaimed Game of Thrones.

Watching people I had taught step into lives and careers of their own became another form of transformation.

If you had told the frightened little boy I once was that one day his life would contain mediumship, books, America, filmmaking, awards, extraordinary friendships and collaborations, West End Choreography, Hollywood connections and working alongside people he admired, I am not sure he would have known what to do with the information.

But this creative awakening also helped me understand something deeper.

Mediumship. Writing. Mentoring. Performance. Film. Speaking.

At first glance they can look like different lives. To me they are not.

They are different expressions of the same things.

Communication. Story. Transformation. Possibility.

Destiny in Motion

Stuart & Dean James-Foy at their Book launch & Evidential Mediumship demonstration

And that brings me to now. Sometimes I look around at my life and feel genuinely amazed by the contrast.

Dean and I live in Shakespeare’s county of Warwickshire in our beautiful home opposite a nature reserve.

I love the morning walks. The wildlife. The horses. The quiet. The laughter.

The ordinary things that do not sound particularly extraordinary until you understand the life that came before them.

The little boy who rarely felt safe built a life in which he does. That, more than any award or achievement, is triumph to me.

A life built around love, purpose, freedom, creativity, adventure, spirit.

And choice.

My trauma did not become my brand. My transformation became the reason behind my work.

Counselling or therapy were not the route through which I healed my own life.

My connection with spirit became my source of meaning, resilience and direction.

That is my story.

It is not a prescription for somebody else’s healing.

Healing is personal. There are many roads.

Mine happened through love, spirit, boundaries, forgiveness, self-understanding, creativity, chosen family, learning to trust again and eventually allowing myself to believe that a completely different life was possible.

And not everyone who comes to me has experienced trauma.

They do not need to.

My story is not the requirement for working with me. It is the reason I do this work.

People come to me at all kinds of crossroads. They may be questioning their purpose. Their relationships. Their business. Their identity. Their direction.

They may be navigating a world changing faster than they can make sense of.

Or they may simply know that something needs to change.

I understand that feeling, because I have lived it.

That is why I sometimes describe my role as a New World Navigator, helping people find clarity, alignment and direction as they move through a rapidly changing world.

Sometimes tomorrow is still hard.

Sometimes tomorrow is simply about getting through another day.

But after tomorrow comes another day.

And another.

There is always the day after tomorrow.

A day when healing might begin.

A day when you say no.

A day when you walk away.

A day when you learn to trust.

A day when you choose love.

A day when you listen to that quiet inner knowing.

A day when survival is no longer enough.

And a day when you decide that you are going to participate in shaping your destiny.

Everything changes when you begin choosing what happens next.

That is Activate Your Destiny.

The future is not something we simply wait to discover.

Our choices, actions, inactions, relationships, environments and the opportunities we embrace all help shape what comes next.

Spirit can illuminate the way. But the choice remains ours.

I know that because I lived it. I lived one life shaped by circumstances beyond my control.

Then I began uncovering the life that was already within me.

And today, I help other people find the clarity, alignment and direction to unleash the life that is already within them.
